How to Rotate PDF Pages

Why pages end up at the wrong angle

Rotation problems usually come from one of a few sources:

A document was scanned with the paper placed at the wrong orientation
A PDF was exported from software that saved it rotated (or with a rotation flag that some readers ignore)
A landscape-format chart or table was inserted into an otherwise portrait document, and the whole thing was saved with mixed orientations
A phone photo converted to PDF sometimes comes out sideways depending on which direction the phone was held

Viewing a rotated page in a PDF reader and using “view rotation” is only a temporary fix — it affects how the file looks in that one viewer, not the file itself. Anyone else who opens it sees the unrotated version. Rotating at the file level fixes it permanently.

Available rotation options

The Rotate tool supports three rotation amounts:

90° clockwise — turns pages to the right
180° — flips pages upside-down (useful for documents saved inverted)
270° clockwise — equivalent to 90° counter-clockwise

Rotations accumulate. If you apply 90° twice to the same page, the result is a 180° rotation. This lets you reach any quarter-turn angle with multiple applications if needed.

Rotating specific pages vs. the whole document

The tool lets you work on specific pages or all pages at once:

Specific pages — click the thumbnails of the pages you want to rotate. Only those pages will be affected when you apply the rotation.
All pages — leave all thumbnails unselected. The rotation you choose applies to every page in the document.

This is useful for mixed-orientation documents: you can select only the sideways pages and rotate them to portrait without touching the rest.
